Rest Stops & Fuel Stations on the Way
The Haramain Expressway has well-equipped rest areas at regular intervals. Here is what you can expect on the way:

- Food & Cafes: McDonald’s, Al Baik, local restaurants at larger stops

Miqat on the Makkah to Madinah Route: Abar Ali
For pilgrims performing Umrah from Madinah, the Miqat is Abar Ali (also called Masjid Dhul Hulayfah), located approximately 9 km from Madinah city center. This is where pilgrims coming from Madinah put on their Ihram before proceeding to Makkah.
However, if you are traveling from Makkah to Madinah, you do not pass through a Miqat for Ihram — you are exiting Makkah, not entering it. The Miqat stop is relevant for the return journey (Madinah to Makkah).

Best Time to Travel from Makkah to Madinah by Road
Traffic on the Haramain Expressway can vary significantly depending on the time of day and season:
- Best Time: Early morning (4am–7am) or after Isha (9pm–11pm) — minimal traffic
- Avoid: Friday afternoons, prayer times near major cities, and the week before/after Hajj and Ramadan
- Hajj Season: Journey can take 7–10 hours during peak Hajj days due to road closures and checkpoints
- Ramadan: Roads are busier before Iftar and after Tarawih prayers
- Coolest Travel: Night travel recommended in summer months (June–August) due to extreme heat
